NSU Hosts Summer Youth Writing Camp
Program Ends Today with Show Written and Performed by 3th-8th Graders

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL- The Summer Youth Writing Camp at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), an enrichment opportunity for 3rd – 8th graders who enjoy writing to develop and reinforce their creative writing skills, will culminate its two week session on Friday, August 1st with a short play written and performed by the students. The performance will be held at 1:00 p.m., on the NSU main campus in the Maltz Psychology Building, room 2057.

This camp, which is co-sponsored by NSU’s Center of Continuing and Professional Studies, and the Broward County Public Schools, is designed for high achieving students who have a “passion” for writing. Through a creative, interactive environment, children are challenged to hone their ability to write short stories based upon a different theme each day. This session, campers chose either Journalism/Media or Screenwriting/Short Fiction.

The Summer Youth Writing Camp is a result of the South Florida Writing Project, a teaching methodology based upon the National Writing Project model. The National Writing Project seeks to promote exemplary instruction of writing in every classroom in America. Approximately 40 Broward County teachers have been trained to deliver staff development to their peers based upon this model. All of the summer camp teachers have been trained and certified as National Writing Project Teacher Consultants.

NSU's Center for Continuing and Professional Studies (CCPS) promotes university academy programs, services and resources through participation in projects/initiatives that create and develop innovative methods for improving quality of life and learning in the community. In addition, CCPS administers the NSU programs in Continuing Education and English as a Second Language.
