NSU Law Center To Graduate 77-Year-Old Student, 13 Others In First Graduating Class for Online Master's In Health Law
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard
Broad Law Center will be graduating its first Online Master’s
in Health Law class 6:30 p.m. this upcoming Saturday, July 12, at the
Renaissance Hotel in Plantation.
Fourteen (14) students-all of whom are working professionals
in the health care industry—will “walk” at the commencement
ceremony, including the oldest graduate of NSU’s Law Center, 77-year-old
John Tabak, D.D.S. Tabak, a World War II veteran and Chairman of NSU’s
Department of Community Dentistry at NSU’s College of Dental Medicine,
will join eight registered nurses, two risk managers, one other dental
professor from NSU [Diane Ede-Nichols, D.D.S.], one psychologist from
Texas, and an employee of the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta
in receiving their master’s degree in health law.
The online master’s degree in health law is the first such program
offered by an accredited school. This unique intensive graduate program
is designed to educate non-lawyer health care professionals about health-related
legal issues. Taught almost entirely over the Internet, the two-year
program is created for full-time practitioners, administrators, military
personnel, nurses, and leaders in the health care industry. To be accepted
into the program, students must hold a bachelor’s degree and work
in the area of health care, insurance, or managed care.
NSU Law Center's mission is to provide students with the skills they
need to practice effectively in the vibrant South Florida community
or elsewhere in the global community. The faculty, a diverse group of
teacher-scholars with a wide range of backgrounds, is committed to producing
highly qualified and compassionate practicing attorneys who reflect
the diversity of the communities they serve. NSU’s curriculum
stresses practical skills and the integration of technology with the
law, so that students embark on their law careers prepared for the real-world
challenges of modern legal practice. Plantation’s Renaissance
Hotel is located at 1230 South Pine Island Road.
