NSU’s “3+3” Dual Admission Program Allows Students To Complete College And Law School In Six Years

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-Incoming college students who aspire to become attorneys can shorten their journey to a career in law with a “3+3” Dual Admission program offered through Nova Southeastern University’s Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences and the Shepard Broad Law Center.

The 3+3 Dual Admission program saves students one year of college tuition by allowing exceptional students to complete three years of study in any undergraduate major, then enroll in the three-year law program. Undergraduate students are admitted to law school at the end of three years if they have maintained a certain grade point average. At the end of a successful first year of law school, the College of Arts and Sciences would award the bachelor's degree. NSU’s 3+3 Dual Admission program is only one of two offered by ABA accredited law schools in the state. In a similar program, the NSU 4+3 Dual Admission program enables high school seniors to gain commitments for admission to both the undergraduate college and the Law Center simultaneously.

Norma Goonen, Ed.D., dean of Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, is excited about the opportunity the program provides to students. “The 3+3 Dual Admission agreement is a golden opportunity for industrious and outstanding students to take advantage of a shortened path to completing both their undergraduate and professional law degree,” she says.

Joseph Harbaugh, J.D., dean of the Shepard Broad Law Center, agrees, "Bright and talented students who are firmly focused on a career in law now may accelerate their entry into the legal profession. In doing so, they sacrifice little and save a substantial amount of tuition and, perhaps more important, a full year on their way to becoming a lawyer. NSU's College of Arts and Sciences and its Law Center are pleased to reward these exceptional students by placing them on the fast-track to their life's work.”

The 3+3 Dual Admission program is one of several such programs offered at NSU. The university offers dual admission to bachelor's degree programs of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences and to selected graduate and first professional degree programs, such as NSU’s medical and dental schools. Students apply to both undergraduate and graduate or professional programs at the same time, and those admitted to the Dual Admission program are assured of their place in an NSU graduate or professional school, as long as they meet program criteria.

Acceptance into the 3+3 Dual Admission program is based on high school grades and SAT test scores. For more information, contact the Office of Admissions at Nova Southeastern University, (954) 262-8000, or visit the admissions website at www.fcas.nova.edu/admissions/.
