SHSS Offers A Master's of Arts Program In Cross-Disciplinary Studies

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - The Graduate School of Humanities & Social Sciences (SHSS) at Nova Southeastern University is offering a new Masters of Arts program in Cross-disciplinary Studies (MACS). The MACS program is the only program of its kind that may be taken through online and on-campus formats.

Students in the MACS program are encouraged to design their own degree program to meet individual professional needs and personal interests. The MACS program offers graduate studies that serve mid-career working adults interested in intellectual advancement. In keeping with liberal studies traditions, students will analyze a range of social issues using a cross-disciplinary approach.
To meet the needs of working adults, MACS offers online course delivery, a five-day residential institute which is designed to compliment the online format and offer students the opportunity for intensive, face-to-face interaction with faculty and fellow students.

Students can complete the MACS degree as a 33-credit hour program, or as a 36-credit hour honors degree program. They complete four required courses (12-credit hours) within the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences. In collaboration with the program director, students design the required practicum sequence (6-credit hours) according to their own professional needs and personal interests.

Students in the MACS program design their own program concentration, selecting a concentration track and choosing four courses (12-credit hours) from an extensive concentration track course menu. Additional 3-credit hours are available as an open elective to students choosing not to pursue a Master’s Thesis.

The following concentration tracks are currently available:

  • Health an Society (in partnership with the College of Allied Health)

  • Information Systems and Society (in partnership with the Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences)

  • Coastal Environment and Society (in partnership with the Oceanographic Center)

  • Culture and Society (Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences)

Celebrating 15 years of excellence, the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) also offers interdisciplinary graduate programs in conflict analysis and resolution, family therapy, college student personnel, peace studies, family studies, health care conflict resolution, family systems healthcare, advanced family systems, and joint programs with the Criminal Justice Institute, the S. Broad Law Center, and the College of Allied Health and Nursing. SHSS is also a home of the two academic journals: "Peace and Conflict Studies," and "The Qualitative Report."

For more information, please contact Dr. Susanne Marshall, Director of MACS, 800-541-6682, ext. 23014, or 954-262-3014, or send email to shss@nova.edu. For more information about SHSS, visit the website at: http://shss.nova.edu.
