Developer Alvin Sherman Contributes $7 Million to Nova Southeastern University's Library
NSU Receives One of the Largest Gifts in its History

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - Nova Southeastern University has received a $7 million landmark gift from long-time South Florida real estate developer Alvin Sherman. In honor of his generosity, NSU's Library will become the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center. The announcement was made by NSU President Ray Ferrero, Jr.

The Sherman Library is a joint use facility available to all citizens of Broward County and the university community, thanks to a unique agreement between the Broward County Board of County Commissioners and NSU. It is Florida's largest library building.

"I witnessed the beginning of Nova Southeastern University and knew its founders," Sherman said. "I have been impressed by its rapid growth and excellence, especially as a not-for-profit, independent university. This is my home town and this is my way of saying thanks."

In accepting the gift, one of the largest in NSU's history, President Ferrero said, "Alvin Sherman's generosity will benefit the citizens of Broward County and visitors, as well as this great university. Libraries are centers of learning for all of us, and serve as a bridge to the past as well as to the future. Mr. Sherman is providing the gift of learning to countless individuals for generations to come."

"Mr. Sherman's entrepreneurial spirit and track record for business agility mirror the traits that have helped NSU grow to the tenth largest independent, not-for-profit university in the United States," said Tom Dieters, NSU's Executive Director of Development. "We are grateful for his vision and his wonderful gift."
