NSU Sponsors Special 2-day Expo Event For 2nd Annual A1A Marathon
Spotlight on Athletes’ Health and Wellness
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- After a successful inaugural year, the A1A Marathon’s Health and Fitness Expo, presented by Nova Southeastern University’s Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, returns for a second, extended year. The Expo, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Center on Friday, February 16, from 12 to 7 p.m., and on Saturday, February 17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The 2007 A1A Expo will be a special two day event filled with twice as much excitement, entertainment, and education. Designed by Elizabeth Swann, Ph.D., director of Farquhar’s Athletic Training Education Program, the Expo will feature an educational lecture series focusing on strength training and nutrition, in addition to presenting a multitude of booths offering services and vendors of interest to race participants. Also, a variety of wellness seminars, featuring information on running and living a healthy lifestyle will be presented, alongside a number of other activities, including race registration. Seminar topics will incorporate many issues of wellbeing such as, proper nutrition, race preparation, running tips and techniques, and overall healthy living, educating participants on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
With a mission to train students to become competent allied health professionals, NSU’s Athletic Training Education Program integrates both a conventional curriculum and hands-on training, enabling students to specialize in injury and illness prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for physically active people. Coupled with traditional instructional training, students also gain practical clinical experience outside the classroom with health and medical professionals in universities, high schools, and physical therapy and professional sports clinics.
As one of the sixteen colleges and centers of NSU, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences is located at the main campus in Davie. The school offers programs in the humanities; math, science, and technology; as well as, computer, social, behavioral, physical, and biological sciences, including the Athletic Training Education Program.
