Nova Southeastern University Offers MBA in Real Estate Development Program

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, FL— Real estate development in Florida is an important economic constant, and the industry’s increased sophistication has created a growing demand for employees who are prepared to work at high-levels within the field. In an effort to prepare business students to meet this demand, Nova Southeastern University’s H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship has developed an MBA in Real Estate Development program which will be offered beginning this spring semester.

Using a unique combination of theory and practice, courses will be taught by NSU professors and visiting lecturers who are professionals in the real estate development industry.  Developer Wayne Falbey, president and CEO of the Naples-based Falbey Group, helped to design NSU’s curriculum and will be teaching courses, as well as recruiting other development professionals to lecture. He believes Florida’s increasing appeal to homeowners makes it a prime location for this innovative program.

“Increasing by more than 1,000 people per day, Florida’s population is expected to expand by several million people in the years ahead, eventually becoming the third most populous state in the union, and these new residents will require homes, apartments, offices, shopping, schools, and medical and recreational facilities.  This demand will continue to qualify real estate development as an economic base industry in Florida,” said Falbey.

The program’s curriculum has the rigor of a traditional MBA program while focusing specifically on the real estate development industry. In addition to the core courses associated with the master of business administration program, students in this program will take specialty courses including: Real Estate Development Process; Real Estate Finance: Markets, Analysis, and Strategies; Land Use Planning and Project Design; Land Use Regulation: Entitlements and Permitting in a Growth-Managed Environment; and Project and Construction Management.

Nova Southeastern University, with its main campus in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is the largest independent institution of higher education in the Southeastern United States, and the 7th largest independent not-for-profit institution nationally. NSU is comprised of undergraduate, graduate and professional schools of osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, optometry, allied health and nursing, medical sciences, dental medicine, law, marine biology and oceanography, business and entrepreneurship, computer and information sciences, humanities, conflict resolution, family therapy, interdisciplinary studies, education, psychology and counseling, and family programs.
