NSU Honors Philanthropists Rose Miniaci and Albert Miniaci as Humanitarians of the Year at Feb. 21 Event
FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – In the case of Rose Miniaci and her son, Albert, the old adage is quite fitting: the apple never falls far from the tree. If Rose Miniaci is the “charitable heart” of the family’s charitable foundation, Albert Miniaci beats along with her.
With the Alfred & Rose Miniaci Foundation, mother and son continue in the footsteps of the late patriarch, Alfred Miniaci, by vigorously supporting numerous humanitarian causes throughout South Florida. Their support of those less fortunate — particularly children — has contributed to the realization of many “impossible dreams.”
Three months after a hurricane delayed an earlier program, Nova Southeastern University will honor Rose Miniaci and Albert Miniaci at its Sixth Annual Humanitarian of the Year Award Ceremony, slated for 6 p.m., Feb. 21, at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six, 2301 SE 17th Street.
“We are pleased to once again thank Rose and Albert for their tireless support of NSU and honor their commitment to the community in this special event,” said NSU President Ray Ferrero, Jr., J.D. “They provide us fine examples of what it means to be champions of humanity. The positive impact of their work will be felt in Broward County for years to come.”
The evening will begin with a reception and silent auction, which will be followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Student Scholarship Fund at the Center for Psychological Studies of Nova Southeastern University.
Each year, the Humanitarian of the Year Award is presented to individuals who have significantly and substantially contributed to our community in the areas of education, health care, family life, welfare and public safety. The 2005 award will go to Rose Miniaci and Albert Miniaci who have contributed to the endowment of countless educational, performing arts, and service organizations in our community.
Individually and through the Alfred & Rose Miniaci Foundation, Rose Miniaci has generously supported numerous non-profit organizations, including schools, research foundations, and cultural institutions. Her generous donations to Nova Southeastern University contributed to funding of the Alfred & Rose Miniaci Performing Arts Center as well as the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center.
Albert Miniaci has been equally philanthropic. He currently serves as the director and treasurer of the Alfred & Rose Miniaci Foundation and is third vice president of the Ann Storck Center. He is also on the board of directors of St. Thomas University and the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County, and contributes time and resources to numerous groups, including Boys Town of Italy, Children’s Home Society of Florida, North Broward Preparatory School & Lighthouse Point Academy, and SOS Children’s Village among others.
Last year, the Humanitarian of the Year Award was presented to Linda Gill, NSU Trustee and president/CEO of Gill Hotels, for her devoted and personal commitment to children and the community. Previous honorees include the Honorable Ginger Lerner-Wren, Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne, Lorraine Thomas, and Rick and Rita Case.
