Nova Southeastern University’s
Shepard Broad Law Center Receives Major Gift from Attorney Title Insurance
Fund
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL— The Shepard Broad
Law Center at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) has received a gift
of $150,000 from Attorneys’ Title Insurance Fund, Inc. (The Fund),
the nation’s first Bar-related® title insurance
underwriter, to establish Attorneys’ Title Insurance Fund Faculty
Enrichment Fund.
The Fund will help enrich scholarship and other
opportunities for NSU Law faculty to continue their professional development
in the area of real estate law. The endowment is one of five – totaling
$1 million– that The Fund is establishing at Florida-based law
schools.
“We are thrilled and honored to receive
this generous gift from The Fund” said Joseph D. Harbaugh, Dean
of the NSU Law Center. “This gift will allow our faculty to further
their study in real estate and share that knowledge with our students
in new and exciting ways. Enrichments opportunities like these are made
possible with the philanthropic support of individuals and organizations
like The Fund.”
“Real estate drives Florida’s economy.
This endowment represents The Fund's reinvestment in the legal foundation
on which that critical piece of Florida’s economy stands,” states
Charles J. Kovaleski, president of The Fund. "With this gift, we are
helping fulfill The Fund's mission to preserve and facilitate the practice
of real estate law. With a high percentage of Nova Southeastern University's
law students remaining in the state to practice law, The Fund saw a natural
opportunity to provide a gift that would enhance the educational experiences
of those future practitioners."
This gift is the latest in The Fund’s commitment
to enhancing the practice of real estate law. For four decades, The Fund
has provided preeminent law schools with an annual endowment to promote
real property education. In addition to the over $16,000 that The Fund
has provided to NSU Law Center over the decade, The Fund conducts an
annual law student awards competition that is open to law students across
the state.
In addition to The Fund’s expansive continuing
education program for real estate attorneys, the organization conducts
a title examination workshop for students at law schools across the state.
The workshop provides students with the methods to help them accurately
examine titles in an orderly and effective manner. It also helps them
easily identify problems to look for when issuing title insurance as
real estate attorneys.
