NSU’s Shepard Broad Law
Center Ranks in the Top Three of The National Jurist’s
Technology Honor Roll
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL—The Shepard Broad Law
Center at Nova Southeastern University has been ranked No. 3 in the 2005
Technology Honor Roll in the January 2005 issue of The National Jurist
magazine. Only one other Florida law school made their top 50 list of
law schools - Stetson University, ranking number 34. Duke University
School of Law and the University of Illinois were the only schools to
outrank NSU Law this year. The rankings are compiled every three years,
and NSU Law Center ranked No.1 in the earlier two National Jurist “Most
Wired” rankings (1998 and 2001-- Illinois finished second in ’98;
Duke trailed us in ’01).
Shepard Broad Law Center Dean Joseph Harbaugh
is proud of his “top three” ranking and remarked, “We
realized that both Duke and Illinois were annoyed at finishing behind
us in the first two “Most Wired” surveys (indeed, their staffs
vowed to ours that it wouldn’t happen again!). To insure their
places in the 2004 rankings both schools made huge investments in technology
in the last three years. Duke, for example, spent over $2 million renovating
its two largest classrooms. Because one of my goals is to minimize tuition
increases, we cannot match the funds many other schools are now investing
in hardware and software (although we are in the process of enhancing
our wireless network by migrating to the fastest and most powerful technology
now available). We will, however, continue to remain among the nation’s
technology leaders by the creativity and innovation of the Law Center’s
Technology Team, the willingness of our faculty to implement teaching/learning
technology advances in the classroom and beyond, and the ability of our
students to remain ahead of the technology curve.”
The National Jurist article included a cover
box, story sidebar and the comment:
“Nova Southeastern has been a technology
pioneer for the past decade. NSU Law Center installed the first wireless
system in a law school in 1996 and was the first U.S. law school to
provide totally wireless access to all faculty, staff and students.”
Integrating a solid foundation in traditional
legal subjects and a pioneering clinical program that sets it apart from
other law schools, the Shepard Broad Law Center offers an innovative
21st century curriculum for today’s talented student. The school
offers full full-time day and part-time evening programs, as well as
an online master's degree in Health Law. Additionally, the Shepard Broad
Law Center offers a wide variety of international and comparative learning
opportunities including courses, clinical opportunities, and law programs
abroad. International programs and courses at the NSU Shepard Broad Law
Center are ABA-approved.
