Dauer Middle School Building Named To Recognize The Dauer Family's Commitment To Education And The Lives Of The School's Students

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - Jerome S. Chermak, headmaster of the prestigious college-preparatory University School of Nova Southeastern University, today announced the naming of the Middle School Building in honor of Dr. Edward and Mrs. Joanne Dauer. The Dauer Building, which houses grades 6-8, will be dedicated at a ceremony and ribbon cutting scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10.

As parents of current and former students, the Dauers have set an example through their active involvement in University School. “We are privileged to name an important building on our campus in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Dauer,” said Headmaster Chermak. “The Dauer family's dedication to excellence in education has resulted in lasting contributions that have benefited not only their own children, but also all students at the school. Their contributions to a variety of educational, medical and cultural institutions position them as wonderful role models of philanthropy in the South Florida community.”

Dr. Edward Dauer is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist, President of Florida Medical Services, Inc., and Director of Radiology at Florida Medical Center, both in Fort Lauderdale. He attended the University of Miami, earning a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, a master of science in Biomedical engineering, and his medical degree. At the University of Miami he has maintained his position as a member of the school's Board of Trustees since 1996. In 1988, he was appointed a member of the Florida State Board of Medicine by the Governor, and confirmed by the Senate. Dr. Dauer served 11 years on the Board of Medicine, including two terms as Chairman.

Joanne Dauer is a Founder of Mount Sinai Medical Center, and received her nursing certification in Critical Care in 1986. She has served in many nursing capacities at eminent South Florida hospitals, including Veterans Administration Hospital, Cedars Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Plantation Hospital, University Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, and Florida Medical Center. She is currently vice president of Florida Medical Services in Fort Lauderdale.

The Dauer family has dedicated itself to bettering the South Florida community by supporting numerous causes, including the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County, Temple Beth Israel in Sunrise, and the Miami City Ballet.
