For Learning In Retirement Resumes Sessions, Offering Seniors Opportunities
For Personal Enrichment And Enlightenment In The New Year
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - Nova Southeastern University's Institute
for Learning in Retirement (ILR) will resume its current session on
Tuesday, January 6, offering South Florida seniors opportunities for
personal enrichment and enlightenment in the New Year.
New and returning members will attend an extensive program of timely
lectures, workshops, discussion groups, and field trips. The session
will kick off with a discussion of "Music and Culture in the Classic
Period," and the Jewish Book Review Series, featuring "The
Coffee Trader." Subsequent sessions will feature subjects such
as "Civil War," "World Literature," "Asian
Philosophy," "The History of the Labor Movement in the USA,"
and "Physics Revisited," along with discussions of Woody
Allen films, and a Writers' Workshop, among many other interesting
activities.
Members can take advantage of the opportunity to learn from renowned
NSU faculty, exciting peer leaders, and prominent visiting experts in
such fields as the humanities, sciences, health, and government, enjoying
all of the benefits of being immersed in a university atmosphere, with
none of the pressures associated with university life, such as tests,
theses and dissertations.
The ILR is a place where members say, "We exercise our hearts,
our minds, and our souls." Serving its members for more than a
quarter of a century on NSU's main campus in Fort Lauderdale,
it was founded to affordably meet the lifelong learning needs of the
growing retirement community in South Florida. Learning opportunities
at the ILR fulfill many needs of its members after they have retired,
providing a welcoming social environment, intellectual challenge and
stimulation, entertainment, and companionship. This evolving, year-round
program promotes member self-governance to create a broad curriculum
of in-class and field trip events.
The ILR convenes four times per week, and all newly retired, semi-retired,
or baby-boomers interested in a learning program to stimulate mind and
spirit are eligible to join. In addition, all ILR participants may attend
two undergraduate classes, with permission of the instructor, free of
charge. The ILR is located at NSU's University Park Plaza North,
3424 South University Drive in Davie. For more information, please contact
ILR Director Ed Aqua at (954) 262-8472.
