NSU's H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business And Entrepreneurship Celebrates Move To Its New Home
Ribbon Cutting And Grand Opening of $33 Million Carl Desantis Building Ushers In New Era
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - Nova Southeastern University's H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship began a new era with the grand opening and ribbon cutting celebration for its new home in the $33 Million Carl DeSantis Building on NSU's main campus in Fort Lauderdale. The state-of-the-art DeSantis Building, located on S.W. 30th St./ Fischler Blvd., between College Ave. and University Drive, will house the Huizenga School's undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs; its Hudson Institute of Entrepreneurship and Executive Education; and its International Institute for Franchise Education. The building will also be home for NSU's Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences.
"The Huizenga School and the DeSantis Building" like their namesakes - stand for excellence both in business and entrepreneurship," said NSU President Ray Ferrero, Jr. "I'd like to thank Carl DeSantis and H. Wayne Huizenga for their many efforts to advance Nova Southeastern University. This building and school stand as testament to their dedication to this community, and to educating tomorrow's business leaders."
"The Huizenga School has always been dedicated to excellence, offering students a business education that will help them excel in the business world," said Randolph "Randy" A. Pohlman, Dean of the H. Wayne Huizenga School
of Business and Entrepreneurship. "Thanks to the collective vision of Mr. Huizenga, Mr. DeSantis, President Ferrero, our faculty, and staff, today we witness the grand opening of a building that now matches the caliber of the Huizenga School's business programs – a building that meets the needs of the future with cutting-edge technology for our students, yet honors the past and
those who have helped us get to where we are today."
A key component of the DeSantis Building's design is its 2,000 square footgrand entrance surrounded in columns and glass walls, with a two-story domed ceiling housing The Huizenga School's August and Melba Urbanek Entrepreneur
Hall of Fame, of which H. Wayne Huizenga and Carl DeSantis are both members. The building's grand entrance also will feature two four-by-six-foot acrylic murals honoring the careers of Mr. Huizenga and Mr. DeSantis.
The DeSantis Building offers business students a quality environment designed to make their educational experience both fulfilling and enjoyable. The 261,000 square foot, 5-story facility is built around a central 3-story courtyard enclosed in a glass atrium. Its design includes wireless connectivity for students, general-purpose classrooms, compressed video/teleconferencing classrooms, a lecture theater, computer labs, multi-purpose facilities, conference facilities, business services/copy center, and administrative and student offices with support facilities. Other components include an Information Technology Center, web stations and breakout meeting areas for students. An Einstein Bros. Bagels is already in operation, with Bene Pizza and a Freshens Smoothie Bar to debut soon.
