Honeywell’s Larry Bossidy to Speak at Nova Southeastern University This Thursday, February 6
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL— Larry Bossidy, retired chairman of the board and CEO of Honeywell International Inc., will be the featured guest speaker this Thursday, February 6, at 10:30 a.m., as Nova Southeastern University's H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship kicks off its Distinguished Lecture Series.
The event, held at the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center at NSU's Library, Research, and Information Technology Center, will be a question-and-answer session with Randolph A. Pohlman, Ph.D., dean of NSU's Huizenga School. Pohlman will interview Bossidy for approximately 30 minutes, and will then field questions from the audience for another half hour.
Bossidy's 45-year business career began with the General Electric Company, which he joined in 1957 as a trainee in the company's renowned financial training program. For the next 31 years, he served in a number of executive and financial positions with GE, including: chief operating officer of GE's Credit Corporation from 1979-81; executive vice president and president of GE's Services and Materials Sector from 1981-84; and vice chairman and executive officer of General Electric Company from 1984-91.
He moved from GE in 1991 to join AlliedSignal Inc. as its chairman and CEO. During his tenure with AlliedSignal, the company achieved consistent growth in earnings and cash flow, highlighted by 31 consecutive quarters of earnings-per-share growth of 13 percent or more, and an eight-fold appreciation of the company's share price.
In 1999, Bossidy became chairman of Honeywell International Inc. following the merger of AlliedSignal and Honeywell in 1999. He retired from the company as scheduled in April 2000, yet was brought back by the Board of Directors as chairman and CEO in 2001 to stabilize the company following General Electric's unsuccessful attempt to acquire Honeywell.
Bossidy is co-author of the best-selling book Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done, a primer on effective hands-on leadership in today's competitive business environment. He was also named CEO of the Year by Financial World magazine in 1994, and Chief Executive of the Year by CEO Magazine in 1998. Bossidy graduated from Colgate University in 1957 with a bachelor's in economics, is a member of the Board of Directors of JP MorganChase, Merck & Company, and Berkshire Hills Bancorp, Inc. He was born in Pittsfield, Mass. He and his wife, Nancy, have nine children.
NSU's Library, Research, and Information Technology Center is located on NSU's main campus at 3100 Ray Ferrero, Jr. Blvd. The event is open to NSU students, faculty, and staff by reservation only.
