NSU Has Exciting Events Planned for February

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL—Nova Southeastern University is planning numerous exciting events for the month of February. The month was kicked off in style with the Love Jen Festival on February 1 and the Forums Series on February 4, featuring motivational speaker Wayne Dyer, Ph.D. The remaining events planned for February include:

  • Wednesday, February 5, 12-1:00 p.m., Scott Harshbarger Student Session. Scott Harshbarger is the Law Center's inaugural Anderson Professor Chair in Law. Mr. Harshbarger is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Common Cause, a nonpartisan citizens' lobby. This student session is open to the public and will be held in the Law Center Terrace.
  • Wednesday, February 5, 7:30 p.m., The 3rd Annual NSU "Knight" at the Panthers. Pre-game begins at 6:30 p.m. The evening is sponsored by the NSU Alumni Association and the Office of Human Resources. The Panthers will play against the Toronto Maple Leafs.   • Thursday, February 6, 10:30 a.m., Distinguished Lecture Series – Larry Bossidy in the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center of the Library, Research, and Information Technology Center. Bossidy is the retired CEO and Chairman of the Board of Honeywell International Inc. This event is sponsored by the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship.   • Monday, February 10, 7:30 p.m., Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Bob Woodward is the guest speaker at NSU's Renaming Celebration for the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. Event is free and open to the public. Woodward will sign his books after speaking. Location: Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center. For more information, call 954-262-8079.
  • Tuesday, February 11, 7-8:30 p.m., “Let's Talk About Sex,” facilitated by sex therapist Marilyn Volker, Ed.D., in the Library, Research, and Information Technology Center, room 4009. Sponsored by the Office of Wellness and Recreation, the presentation is designed to educate and raise awareness about different sexual orientation, and cultures, as well as safe sex practices.   • Thursday February 13,Two-Day Workshop – Building Sustainable Community Relations, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m , on 2/13 and 2/14. Sponsored by the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Science, this workshop is facilitated by Deryl Hunt, Ph.D., scholar, author, and producer.   • Friday February 14, 5:00 p.m., “Valentine's Day Dinner.” The students of NSU will host a “Valentine's Day Dinner” for the senior citizens at the Harbor Beach Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Lauderdale. This dinner is a reunion for the students and seniors who participated in last December's Senior Prom.   • Friday February 14, Buying and Selling on eBay by Seniors, 2:00-4:00 p.m., at NSUCommuniversity's Multimedia Room in University Park Plaza South. Sponsored by NSU's SeniorNet Learning Center, the seminar is designed for seniors, ages 50 and over, and taught by seniors. Attendees will learn the procedures involved in online shopping, including searching for products, bidding and purchasing.
  • Friday February 14, a three-act play entitled, “A Lady Named Justice,” 7:00 p.m., written by Deryl Hunt and performed by the Community Builders Club of Florida International University. This play is about conflict between individuals of different cultures. Sponsored by the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, it will be performed at the Alfred and Rose Miniaci Performing Arts Center. Cost is $20: non-student; $15: NSU student.   • Monday, February 17, Afro-Caribbean Feast, sponsored by the Pan African Student Association (P.A.S.A.) in celebration of Black History Month. Feast will be held in front of Parker Building from 12-2:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday February 18, Outstanding Floridian Award will be presented to Adora Obi Nweze, the first woman president of the Florida NAACP. Event sponsored by PASA in celebration of Black History Month. Event will be held at 5:30 p.m., in room 4009 of the Library, Research, and Information Technology Center.
  • Wednesday February 19, 2003 SFCC Career Expo, 2:00-7:00 p.m., at the Signature Grand, 6900 State Road 84. For more information, please call the Office of Career Services, 954-262-7201.
  • Wednesday February 19, Black History Month Games and Movie Night, 8:30 p.m., in the Flight Deck. Event is sponsored by P.A.S.A. There will be a Black history knowledge bowl, card games of spades and dominoes. The movie to be shown is Barber Shop.
  • Thursday February 20, Black History Month Coffee House/Poetry Night will be held in the Flight Deck from 6-9:00 p.m. Come out listen to poetry, bring some to read, and enjoy the celebration.
  • Saturday February 22, American Heart Association Heart Walk, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Community event will be held on NSU's main campus. For more information, call 954-772-8100.
  • Sunday February 23, To Your Health Day, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., The Florida Broward Region of Hadassah is sponsoring a FREE Health fair with speakers, screenings, exhibits and presentations.   • Tuesday February 25, Wilhelmina model Valerie Lefkowitz will discuss, "Beautiful As You Are: A Model's Story,” 7:00-8:30 p.m., in the Rotunda of the Horvitz Administration Building. The Office of Recreation and Wellness is presenting the program to bring attention to Eating Disorders Awareness Week (February 23-Mar. 2). Event is free and open to the public.   • Friday February 28, Family Involvement Institute, provides school administrators, and college/university faculty members with information focused on application of best practices to increase parental involvement in schools.
