NSU to Host 2-day Workshop and Play About Building Community Relations
Author and Scholar Deryl Hunt, Ph.D., to Facilitate Workshop

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL –The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at Nova Southeastern University will host author, scholar, and producer Deryl Hunt, Ph.D., for a two-day workshop entitled, “Building Sustainable Community Relations.” The workshop will be held on February 13 and 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on NSU’s East Campus, 3100 SW 9th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale.

Registration for the workshop is $250.00, and $125.00 for students. Workshop objectives include:

  • Enhancing communication skills in a context of cross-cultural appreciation and interaction
  • Facilitating collaboration and dialogue among the private, public and religious sectors on issues affecting growth and development
  • Promoting management training that will foster sustained mutual relationships between managers and trainees via inclusive community building values; and
  • Enhancing conflict resolution skills while carrying out an Ellison Model project.

After the workshop on February 14, conflict resolution will be dramatized in a three-act play written by Hunt entitled, “A Lady Called Justice,” a musical about conflict between individuals from different cultures. The Community Builders Club of Florida International University will perform the play at 7:00 p.m., in the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center on NSU’s main campus. Admission is $20.00, and $15.00 for students.

SHSS offers interdisciplinary graduate programs in conflict analysis & resolution, family therapy, college student personnel administration, peace studies, family studies, health care conflict resolution, medical family therapy and joint programs with the Criminal Justice Institute and the Shepard Broad Law Center.
