Nova Southeastern University Renewed Another Year for Army's E-learning Program

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-Nova Southeastern University is one of 20 educational institutions that have been renewed as a participating university in the eArmyU program, the U.S. Army's largest e-learning virtual university with more than 30,500 enrolled soldiers. Participation in eArmyU requires adherence in Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) principles and criteria, and to Servicemember Opportunity Colleges - Army Degrees (SOCAD) membership approval.

IBM Business Consulting Services, which designed and operates eArmyU for the Army, also announced new academic program offerings and the expansion of participating colleges and universities to meet soldier needs. The number of colleges and universities participating in eArmyU will increase to 32, in 19 states, during 2003. The academic institutions will offer more than 3,000 courses and more than 150 academic degree programs, tripling the degree programs since eArmyU's inception. Twelve new undergraduate and graduate schools and at least 68 additional degree programs will be phased into eArmyU over the next six to nine months.

The online learning program has delivered educational opportunities to more than 30,500 enlisted soldiers since the program began in January 2001, and will enroll approximately 80,000 soldiers by 2005 at military installations around the world.

NSU was identified to provide online degree programs for enlisted soldiers through a competitive process. In concert with U.S. Army needs, IBM Business Consulting Services recommended schools based on their ability to address the higher education goals and interests of enrolled soldiers, meet the program's technological and administrative requirements, and optimize value to the Army. NSU's online programs that have been renewed for eArmyU include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Professional Management (BS-PM)
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Master of Science in Computer Information Systems (MS-CIS)
  • Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MS-MIS)

The new programs that NSU will begin offering for the eArmyU program include:

  • Master of Science in Graduate Teacher Education (MS-GTEP)
  • Master of Science in Instructional Technology and Distance Education (MS-ITDE)
  • Master of Medical Science (MMS)
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems (BS-CIS)

With more than 21,000 students, NSU is the largest independent institution of higher education in the Southeast and the 12th largest independent institution nationally. The university awards associate's, bachelor's, master's, educational specialist, and doctoral degrees in online, on-campus and off-campus formats. NSU's 16 academic centers, colleges, and schools offer programs in osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, optometry, allied health, medical sciences, dental medicine, law, marine biology, business and entrepreneurship, computer and information sciences, humanities and social sciences, education, psychology and counseling, and family programs. The university also offers 15 undergraduate majors through the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences.
