Alvin Sherman Library Leads Local Call To Action
for Wounded Soldiers Returning from War
Alvin Sherman Library Joins Quilts of Valor Movement
FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, FL – A Quilt of Valor drive, exhibit, reception and workshop are all part of a month long movement designed to inspire a massive collection of quilts by June 15 for a bulk donation to the Quilt of Valor Foundation.
Join the Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center at Nova Southeastern University and answer this call to action on behalf of wounded soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
A Quilt of Valor is a tribute to a wounded soldier, recognizing his or her service, dedication and sacrifices made on behalf of our country. It is a lap size machine or handmade quilt, which has been pieced and quilted using materials such as 100 percent cotton and flannels for warmth and comfort.
Quilters of South Florida are invited to answer the call by submitting their quilts with a completed entry form by June 15. Organizers ask that all quilts be hand delivered to Nora Quinlan at the Alvin Sherman Library, 3100 Ray Ferrero Boulevard in the Davie Campus of NSU. For more information on participating, please call Nora Quinlan at 954-262-4637 or email nora@nova.edu. Quilts will then be displayed in the 3rd floor Gallery July 2 though August 10. Join fellow quilters and quilt lovers at an opening reception in the Gallery on Thursday, July 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. All quilts will then be delivered personally to the VA Hospital in Miami.
Attend a free Quilts of Valor workshop in the Gallery at the Alvin Sherman Library on Saturday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is required. Please contact Carla Millares by email at Carla@keylimequilts.com or by phone at 954-655-2202.
Join the Quilt of Valor movement and be a part of the road to recovery for our combat wounded service members. Donate your quilt to the Alvin Sherman Library by June 15 and let your labor of love bring awareness to this national movement.
