Time Warner Telecomm Extends Partnership With NSU and FBI

There is no doubt that the internet is big business. It has also proven to be a dangerous environment for young children with the increasing number of online predators who search for them.

In the fight against online child predators, Time Warner Telecomm has extended its partnership with Nova Southeastern University and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a third year making it possible for the FBI-SOS Internet Safety Challenge to continue educating youth on how to surf safely online.

Thanks to donated server space and the network connection to run the FBI-SOS Internet Safety Challenge, middle school children around the nation have access to a free learning tool that can prove be a life saver. The FBI-SOS Internet Safety Challenge is a joint partnership between Nova Southeastern University and the Miami FBI Crimes Against Children Unit. This monthly program is administered at NSU's Fischler School of Education and Human Services and is designed to give middle school students tips to avoid dangerous situations on the Internet, specifically internet predators. The program is offered to middle schools nationwide, and consists of a pre-quiz to test the students’ current knowledge of the Internet, a scavenger hunt to teach them tips on how to surf the Web safely, and a post-quiz to see how much the student learned. The program is free and available to any middle school in the country. There is no special software to buy, because the program is run entirely online. On Monday, March 26, a group of 26 students from John F. Kennedy Middle School in North Miami Beach were recognized as the winning recipients of the FBI-SOS Internet Safety Challenge. The students were recognized in front of their peers, by FBI Special Agents and officials from NSU’s Fischler School of Education and Human Services.
