Video Games, Prizes, Miami Dolphins Heat Up Summer Reading Program
Alvin Sherman Library Kicks Off Ultimate Celebration on June 2
FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, FL – Check out the best kept secret for free summer fun on June 2nd.
From noon to 3 p.m. bring the family to the Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Technology Center for the ultimate kick-off celebration of a summer reading program that is unlike any other. See and experience music, live entertainment with costumed characters like Curious George and Tacky the Penguin, cool down with free Italian Ices, enjoy arts and crafts and much more.
Learn about the many free activities available for toddlers, tweeners and teenagers at this event as you get familiar with Summer Reading Program in June and July at the Alvin Sherman Library. From free toddler playtimes and puppet reading shows to teenage video game contests, there is a range of possibilities that won’t touch your vacation budget and will bring relief to your gas costs with the library’s convenient location on the NSU Davie Campus.
Get the kids in gear by reserving their spot in the summer reading incentive program where they can win prizes. This year, the Miami Dolphins, a major sponsor, puts a new twist on the reading program with a free fold-out game board designed as a football field that will be made available on June 2nd at the library. Kids and parents set the pace for reading this summer. As the child progresses through the game board, they will have an opportunity to select from a variety of incentive prizes as they reach prize spots along the board. Some of our fun incentive prizes will include: color-changing cups, inflatable globes, Bent-cils, foam sports balls and coupons to local eateries. At different spots along the game board, each child can also earn a grand prize. Drawing entry forms are required. The Alvin Sherman Library will have an on-site drawing for a personal DVD player and passes to Butterfly World. Don’t miss the county-wide grand prize drawing with eligible prizes including VIP Training Camp experience and VIP Game Day experiences with the Dolphins, as well as a Nintendo Way.
Visit the teen room and check out video games for Wii, Xbox, GameCube and more. Read all about it online at www.nova.edu/library/summer/
The Alvin Sherman Library is a joint-use facility, which is the result of an innovative agreement between NSU and the Broward County Board of Commissioners. The five-story Library, Research, and Information Technology Center is Florida's largest library at 325,000 square feet. It serves the residents of Broward County, as well as NSU students, faculty, and staff members.
