Convenient Online Master of Science in Employment Law
For Non-Lawyer Human Resource and Business Professionals
Added to NSU Law Center’s Degree Offerings

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE- Adding to the array of degree programs currently offered by Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad Law Center, the Master of Science in Employment Law for non-lawyers was recently introduced to the center’s curriculum, with a goal of teaching business and human resource professionals the necessary skills to effectively identify, understand, and deal with the intricate set of legal issues that arise in the employer-employee relationship.

The belief that business and human resource professionals need more exposure to, and knowledge of, laws regulating the workplace has provided the impetus for the creation of a Master of Science in Employment Law. The employer-employee relationship has been regulated to varying degrees for the past several decades, but nothing has matched the amount of regulations that employers face in today’s market. With the establishment of laws regulating wages and benefits, mandating occupational safety, prohibiting discrimination and harassment, requiring time off for medical purposes, dealing with bargaining units and unions, and defining workplace privacy, human resource professionals are constantly confronted with regulations that control many, if not most, of the decisions made regarding employees. With the ever increasing use of technology in the workplace, coupled with the fact that employees are becoming progressively more aware of their legal rights regarding employment, it is becoming essential that business and human resource professionals have an understanding of labor and employment law.

Judith Karp, Professor of Law at Shepard Broad Law Center, is the program’s director. The two-year Master of Science in Employment Law program is taught almost entirely over the Internet. Short residential sessions each year add another dimension to the learning experience. Professor Karp adds, “The Master of Science in Employment Law Program is designed to meet the demand for clear and concise instruction on current trends in employment law that directly impact business and human resource professionals.”

Located in the heart of Broward County, Nova Southeastern University engages students by offering high quality academic programs that teach both theory and practice.  Integrating a solid foundation in traditional legal subjects and a pioneering clinical program that sets it apart from other law schools, the Shepard Broad Law Center offers an innovative curriculum for today’s talented student. The school offers full full-time day and part-time evening programs, as well as online Master of Science degrees in Health Law, Education Law, and Employment Law. Additionally, the Shepard Broad Law Center offers a wide variety of international and comparative learning opportunities including courses, clinical opportunities, and law programs abroad. International programs and courses at the NSU Shepard Broad Law Center are ABA-approved.
