Broward County Agencies Collaborate With NSU's Alvin Sherman Library
to Provide Free Hurricane Preparedness Information

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, FL - On Friday, May 11, 10:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., the Public Library Services Department of the Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Technology Center at Nova Southeastern University will host an all day free program for residents about hurricane preparedness. The program will also include a special Wild Weather Story Time for children designed to teach them about various weather conditions. Representatives from various Broward County agencies, Florida Power & Light, The Broward County Chapter of The American Red Cross, Consumer Affairs and others will provide detailed information, tips and literature about staying safe before and after a storm. Visitors of the Alvin Sherman Library can get a first hand look at some of the necessary hurricane supplies in a special display located on the first floor of the library.

The following is a line-up of the highlights for the day. Please call the library to confirm all times.

10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Carl Fowler from Broward Emergency Management (cover various emergency tips, services, will show a short video)

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Wild Weather Story time and crafts with Miss Meagan

12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Learn about proper procedures for boarding up your home; generator safety issues; and tools to have on hand before, during and after a story. The Broward County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have representatives available to provide information on pre and post hurricane tips.

2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - Andrea Voss, Public Education Coordinator for the Broward County Animal Care and Regulation Division will feature hurricane safety tips for pets)
2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Consumer Affairs Division (post hurricane -price gauging, selecting the right contractor, etc)

Nova Southeastern University will also feature a presentation from a member of the Office of Information Technology regarding tips on how to properly back up computers and where and how to store software and computers.
