7th Annual Community Health Fair Offers Free Screenings
NSU  Health Professions Division and Florida Osteopathic Medical Association Student District Society Sponsor Event at the Tower Shops

DAVIE, FL - The Seventh Annual Nova Southeastern University Community Health Fair, will be held on Saturday, April 21 from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Tower Shops/Home Depot Plaza, located on University Drive at 595 in Davie.

The Health Fair will feature free health screenings for children and adults, including vision, blood pressure, diabetes screenings, and more. There will be no charge for any of the screenings.

“Visitors to the event will be provided with a wonderful opportunity to speak to health professionals from a variety of disciplines – free of cost,” said Morton Morris, D.O., J.D., vice chancellor for professional affairs for NSU’s Health Professions Division. “We are very pleased that each year the event has grown in terms of the number of families who attend, and in terms of the community partners we are able to attract.”

Physicians, pharmacists, optometrists, physical therapists, dentists, and other community health care providers staff the booths, along with students from various colleges at NSU. Graduate students will schedule screening appointments and assist in screenings. The health fair will also feature experts in family medicine, pediatrics, physical therapy, public health, and more.

Parents can also stop by Davie Police Department’s booth to register their children and receive a safety ID.  Firefighters from the Davie Fire Department will also be on hand throughout the day to greet children, giving them a rare opportunity to talk with some real local heroes.

“Last year we had one bloodmobile and the demand was so great, that this year we are happy to report that two bloodmobiles will also be on site for those who wish to donate blood to the local hospital system,” said Riccardo.

Aramark Dining Services has generously donated hamburgers, hot dogs, sodas, and all the trimmings for a “Davie-style Barbecue.” The cookout will begin at 11:30 a.m. and continue while supplies last.  Entertainment will include a DJ and bounce house providing fun for the whole family.
