North Broward Hospital District Files
New Certificate of Need for Medical Village Hospital
The North Broward Hospital District (NBHD) on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 filed a new Certificate of Need application for the Medical Village Hospital.
The Medical Village Hospital will be located on the campus of Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and will be built, owned, and operated by the NBHD. The NBHD's solid financial position provides the opportunity to build and own the facility, without impacting the current strong bond rating. In addition, no tax funds will be used in the design and construction of the hospital.
The proposed hospital is the result of a successful, decade-long relationship between two of Broward's largest institutions - the North Broward Hospital District and Nova Southeastern University.
Through the partnership, the Medical Village Hospital will expand and develop opportunities for the training of physicians and allied health professionals. The new hospital will assure continual improvements in health care services in Broward County and create an academic research environment. This is possible through the collaboration of NBHD's resources and state-of-the-art technology as well as NSU's biomedical research and medical programs.
The establishment of a public facility in West Central Broward will provide another hospital choice for taxpayers and increase access to healthcare services for underserved populations. The location also provides easy access via public transportation. The initial decision from AHCA is expected June 16, 2006.
We believe the residents of Broward County would benefit from - and deserve - the many programs and services planned for the Medical Village Hospital. Plans call for:
- An Academic Medical Center
- Improved access to ER services in West Central Broward County
- Specialized Geriatric Programs
- Culturally Competent Healthcare
- Opportunities to Educate and Train More Doctors for the Community
- Patient Information Centers and Library Resources
- Hospital Based Dental Services
- Research and Development
- Center of Excellence for Orthopedic Sports Medicine
- Training in Bioterrorism and Disaster Preparedness
