NSU Hosts over 1,000 Kids During Residential Summer Camps

FORT LAUDERDALE- DAVIE, FL- The main campus of Nova Southeastern University (NSU) will be alive with activity this summer as more than 1,000 students from across the state attend leadership and athletic camps while residing in the only intercollegiate residence halls in Broward County.

During June 2-6, NSU will host he Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) 2005 camp, a leadership-training program for more than 100 sophomore and junior high school students. The attending students are sponsored by their area Rotary Clubs, and hail from Broward, Dade and Monroe counties, and the Grand Bahamas.

June 3 – July 5, NSU will host Cranio-Facial Camp - a special four-week oasis for children with facial differences. NSU has hosted the camp since 1999 and approximately 80 children of all ages are expected to attend and stay in Leo Goodwin Sr. Residence Hall.

Are you ready for some football? High school football players, stay on campus during D-1 Football Camp, which runs June 7-16. Campers will learn proper fundamentals and the latest techniques, while being coached and evaluated by both high school and college colleges. Approximately 250 boys are expected to attend.

Health Careers Camp celebrates its 16th year anniversary this summer at NSU as it continues to expose high school students to health careers through hands-on and interactive activities. Eighty percent of the students who have participated in the camp have gone on to pursue health careers. More than 80 students are expected to stay in Goodwin Hall during the camp, which runs June 17 –25.

Athletes take over again when more than 250 football players, ages 8-18 are expected during Offense-Defense Football Camp, June 25-30. The camp will feature instruction from NFL players and coaches, including the Miami Dolphins' Zack Thomas, and coaches/players from the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars.

In addition to the various summer camps that will populate the residence halls, NSU will host hundreds of incoming students during the Undergraduate Orientation sessions being held throughout the summer.

Summer camps will conclude with the South Florida Leadership Training Camp, designed to help high school students improve and enhance their leadership abilities. Approximately 300 participants are expected to attend the camp, which will run July 15-23.
