FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. --Nova Southeastern
University, today announced that Health Professions Division Chancellor,
Fred Lippman, R. Ph., Ed.D. was appointed to the executive committee
of the Florida Research Consortium (FRC). The FRC is a strategic partnership
between Florida’s universities, business community and state government
focused on enhancing cutting-edge research programs at Florida’s
public and private universities, and adding to the diversity and strength
of Florida's technology economy through the commercialization of that
research.
“Anyone who knows Dr. Lippman recognizes
that he is a visionary and a fervent advocate for the promotion of research
and health care in the State of Florida,” said Jack Sullivan, Jr.,
president, Florida Research Consortium. “Through his determined
efforts, NSU has developed within the FRC to become a part of the fiber
of this organization. His appointment to this executive committee is
a milestone that will provide a strong independent university perspective
to our organization.”

of the Florida House of Representatives. During his tenure with the legislature
he was a steadfast advocate for children and senior citizens, and for
improvements to Florida’s health care system. One of his many legislative
accomplishments was the introduction of the country’s first law
mandating the use of child safety seats in vehicles.
He is also widely known as the “father” of
Florida’s Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program, a federally-funded
program that works to improve the supply and distribution of primary
care in medically underserved areas by creating partnerships with academic
health centers.
A community pharmacist early in his career,
Dr. Lippman is widely recognized by many organizations for his commitment
to the health and well-being of people in his community. He served as
president of the Broward County Pharmacists Association and was a former
Speaker of the House of Delegates for the Florida Pharmacy Association.
He also received the prestigious American Pharmaceutical Association’s
Hubert M. Humphrey Award for Excellence in Pharmacy in 1986.
Additionally, Dr. Lippman is the recipient of
numerous community service and health care awards including the Youth
Law Center Distinguished Achievement Award; Florida Medical Association’s
Award of Appreciation; the Public Service Award from the United States
Department of Transportation; the American Trauma Society Distinguished
Service Award and the Florida Pediatric Society’s “Outstanding
Legislator” and “Advocate for Children” Awards.
Dr. Lippman is a graduate of Columbia University’s
College of Pharmacy. He received his doctorate in Higher Education Administration
from Nova Southeastern University.
