Florida Youth Program Kicks off at Nova Southeastern University on Saturday, June 4
Event features giveaways, games and prizes

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE – The Florida Youth Program (FLYP) kicks off on Saturday, June 4 at the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center on the main campus of Nova Southeastern University . The mini event, which is sponsored by NSU and South Florida Parenting Magazine, will feature games, prizes, and fun for the whole family. The first 200 children, ages 5-12 years old who register for the Summer Reading program, will receive a free South Florida Parenting Summer FunPass, which allows children, 12 and under, to receive free admission and free special offers at most popular family attractions in South Florida.

The program series offers a variety of fun guests and activities for children during the summer, particularly four Super Saturday activities, which include:

  • Jun. 4 – FLYP Kick-Off , all Ages, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.

  • Jun. 11 – Super Saturday with Jiggleman, all ages, 2 - 3:00 p.m.

  • Jun. 18 – Super Saturday with Mr. Brian and the Boppets, all ages, 2 – 3:00 p.m.

  • Jun. 25 – Super Saturday with the Duck in the Truck Puppets, all ages, 2 - 3 p.m.

Additional June programs are as follows:

Tuesdays

  • Mother Goose - ages up to 35 months with a caregiver, 10:30 - 10:50 a.m; Jun. 21 – Sing-a-long Special with Douglas Black

  • Family Literacy University - enhance your child's reading skills, parents and caregivers of children ages up to 35 months, 10:50 - 11:15 a.m. and 7:45 – 8:00 p.m.

  • Bilingual Family Storytime - Stories and Songs in English and Spanish/Cuentos y Canciones en Inglés y Español, all ages, 7 - 7:45 p.m.

Wednesdays

  • Family Storytime Fun, all ages with a caregiver, 10 - 10:30 a.m.
    • Jun. 8 - Citrus Stories
    • Jun. 15 - Seaside Stories
    • Jun. 22 - Florida Forever-Glades Fun
    • Jun. 29 - The Race of the Tortoise and the Hare

  • Little Learners Open Computer Lab - Jun. 8, 15 , 22, 29, ages 3 to 5 with a caregiver, 10:30 to 11 am

Thursdays

  • Tweens Club - Jun. 9, 16 , 23, 30 fun for ages 9 to 12, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Fridays

  • Tiny Tots Freeplay - Jun. 10, 17, 24 – a one-on-one play experience for babies and toddlers with their parents and caregivers. Ages up to 24 months with caregiver. Weekly registration required: 954-262-5477, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

The Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center is a joint-use facility with the Broward County Board of County Commissioners . Free card membership allows patrons access to public library collections as well as exclusive university academic resources. The library is located at 3100 Ray Ferrero, Jr. Blvd. , Fort Lauderdale.
