New Higher Education Institute at NSU Aims to Prepare Those
Looking to Lead Colleges or Universities
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - A new educational institute at Nova Southeastern
University's Fischler School of Education & Human Services
will help to prepare those with aspirations to lead a college or
university.
The Institute for Public Policy and Executive Leadership in Higher
Education, designed for the future college or university president,
vice president and dean, will focus specifically on public policy
issues and laws that impact colleges and universities – a first for
Florida. A second component of the institute will center on the
fundamentals for managing and leading a higher education institution.
Beginning in October, the Institute will offer one two-week period
of seminars, workshops and courses annually. The curriculum will
address senior level public policy issues and laws in education,
budgeting and financial management, fundraising strategies, legal
and ethical issues, distance education and instructional technology
and their impact on education. Senior fellows from academia and
political office will teach the courses.
“We feel this institute is valuable and timely because it will help
cultivate the necessary leadership skills for future campus leaders
and stimulate dialogue on important issues facing education,” said
Dr. Ralph Hogges, executive director of the institute and program
professor at the Fischler Graduate School.
After completing the requirements for the institute, participants will
earn a Certificate in Public Policy and Executive Leadership in Higher
Education. Application deadline for the fall 2004 October 10-23 Institute
is June 30. For applications, registration and institute information,
contact Dr. Ralph Hogges at 954-262-8454, or visit www.schoolofed.nova.edu/ippel.
