"A Grand Night for Singing"
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL—The Nova Singers of Nova Southeastern University-a 130-voice chorus under the leadership of founder Peggy Joyce Barber-announce the summer performance schedule for 2003.
This summer the Nova Singers celebrate the season with the theme, "A Grand Night for Singing." The chorus will tour North Carolina this summer and will premiere the tour concert in South Florida. The tour consists of a variety of music including classical, American and international folk songs, show tunes, and patriotic songs.
Nova Singers will perform on:
- Tuesday, June 3, 8:15 p.m., at Taft Street Baptist Church, 7241 Taft Street, Pembroke Pines, 954-983-1413. Admission is $7.00 per person.
- Friday, June 6, 8:00 p.m., at Mizner Park Ampitheater, Boca Raton (east side of Federal Highway, south of Glades Road and north of Palmetto Park Road), 800-226-1812. Admission is free.
The Nova Singers truly represent the community and encompasses people from all walks of life, from high-school students to retirees, as well as representatives from the NSU student body, faculty, and staff. Its lightly blended choral sound is often demonstrated by music from the Renaissance. Most often the group performs classical choral music, but selections also frequently include sacred, contemporary, Broadway, opera, and pops.
The Nova Singers have performed in Carnegie Hall, the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., churches and cathedrals throughout Europe, and most venues in Southeast Florida, including the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, and Gusman Hall at the University of Miami.
