FORT LAUDERDALE, FL— The University School of Nova Southeastern University’s middle school chess team, consisting of students Naor Brown, Brian Goldstein, Eric Rodriguez, and Eunice Rodriguez, have captured the 2003 National Middle School Chess championship.
Wins by each of the players in the final round gave University School enough points to earn the national title, held at the Hyatt Orlando Convention Center. Nearly 1,500 scholastic chess players participated, representing over 250 schools from 46 states.
Brown, Goldstein, and Eric Rodriguez were singled out at the competition for exemplary individual effort, with Brown tying for second place, Goldstein for third, and Eric Rodriguez for fourth.
