Online Teaching Strategies
Tips
for Online Teaching Strategies
Using effective collaboration and interaction strategies will
be helpful with identifying the individual needs of students.
- Early in the course, require students to contact you and interact
among themselves via discussion areas and email, so they become
comfortable with the technology and the process.
- Discussion Areas - Create topic specific discussion areas
that require students to not only post but respond to other
postings.
- Create a Newbee group within your discussion area that will
encourage interaction between students who are familiar with
the online technology and program course material and those
who are new comers to the online environment as well as the
program.
- Group Essays- Present a topic in a shared area of your course
which will allow students to write an essay with students being
responsible for specific paragraphs.
- Group Online Presentations- Create a presentational area that
allows groups of students to work on presentational software
and documents (i.e. PowerPoint).
- Group Webpages- Create a presentational area in your course
that allows groups of students to work on topic specific webpages.
- Suggest students keep a journal of their thoughts and ideas
regarding course content as well as their individual progress.
Have student share or submit entries frequently throughout the
course.
- Include detailed comments on written assignments, referring
to additional resources for supplementary information.
- Integrate a variety of interaction and feedback, including
one-on-one and group emails.
