Communication and Collaboration

Department General Duties

Department of Communicatoin and Collaboration GraphThe SharePoint department facilitates a collection of collaboration tools and technologies for different groups of people who work together on initiatives within and between departmental groups.  SharePoint solutions that we deploy and maintain can deliver to large disparate users or, on the other hand, specific to an idea or group of people.  SharePoint allows people to work together more productively.

Workflow

The SharePoint department generates and maintains business workflows on SharePoint.  A Workflow is sometimes described as a series of tasks that produce an outcome.  Using SharePoint, a workflow is defined as the automated movement of documents or items through a sequence of actions or tasks that are related to a business process.  Workflows can be used to consistently manage common business processes within an organization by enabling the organization to attach business logic to documents or items in a SharePoint list or library. Business logic is basically a set of instructions that specifies and controls the actions that happen to a document or item.

Analytics

NSU has lots of data that is stored in a variety of formats, such as databases, e-mail messages, and spreadsheet files.  Our department uses SharePoint and its tools help you organize that data in a useful way and present that data as meaningful information.
The Analytics group uses a pre-built Web site or template that is optimized to help manage the working elements of business intelligence (BI) reporting: scorecards, dashboards, data connections, status lists, status indicators, and so on.  Your Analytics site can be customized as much as you like.

Process Improvement

Using quality procedures such as the Six Sigma Quality Program, our department helps others look at the basic components of improving their existing processes such as:

  1. Defining products and services
  2. Identifying Customer requirements
  3. Comparing Products with requirements
  4. Describing existing processes
  5. Improving existing processes
  6. Measuring the quality and productivity of processes
