FORT LAUDERDALE, FL- Nova Southeastern University's president Ray Ferrero, Jr., will receive the American Psychological Association Presidential Citation at noon this Wednesday [November 15] in the President's Dining Room at NSU's Horvitz Administration Building. APA president Pat DeLeon, Ph.D., M.P.H., J.D. and Ronald Levant, Ed.D., M.B.A., dean of the Center for Psychological Studies, will present the award.

President Ferrero is being recognized for his ongoing efforts to create partnerships between the communities served and the academic activities of the university and for establishing linkages that provide a scientific perspective to understanding and developing effective solutions to human problems. He is also being honored for acknowledging the importance of a psychological perspective in resolving complex social problems and for establishing and maintaining the shared South Florida resource of a comprehensive Community Mental Health Center.

Past recipients of the APA Presidential Citation have included Donna Shalala, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Rosalyn Carter, Tipper Gore, Senator Daniel Inouye, Nancy Reagan, C. Everett Koop, Surgeon General David Stacher, and former head of the Peace Corps, Carolyn Peyton.

The APA is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States and is the world's largest association of psychologists. Founded in 1892, APA's membership includes more than 159,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants, and students. APA works to advance psychology as a science, as a profession, and as a means of promoting human welfare.
