NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS CELEBRATE
'CARIBBEAN KNIGHTS' AS HOMECOMING EVENTS GET UNDER WAY

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL- The former-Hurricane Keith may have wreaked havoc in the Western Caribbean, but it had little effect on Nova Southeastern University's Caribbean.

This week's tropical disturbance-which brought more than 10 inches of rain to Miami-Dade County yesterday [Tuesday] and hit South Florida after trailing Hurricane Keith-will only postpone one of this week's Homecoming events, as Nova Southeastern University's Office of Student Life announced that "Caribbean Knights" goes on virtually unscathed.

Ironic, as one of tomorrow's [Thursday's] main events involves much water. The 10th annual "Anything That Floats Raft Race," an NSU tradition that features various student organizations going head-to-head in homemade, makeshift "boats," begins at 5:00 p.m. with most of the participants expected to somehow find their way into NSU's Gold Circle Lake (located directly behind the Horvitz Administration Building) and get wet.

Immediately afterward, on the service road between the Rosenthal Student Center and the Leo Goodwin Senior Residence Hall, will be NSU's fifth annual bed race. Thursday's activities cap off with the second annual carnival, held behind the Mailman-Hollywood building (just southwest of the Horvitz Administration Building).

On Friday, intercollegiate athletics take center stage, with a 3:00 p.m. men's soccer match versus Life University at the NSU Soccer Complex, and an 8:30 p.m. volleyball game against Warner Southern College at the BCC George Mayer Gymnasium. The evening ends with a comedy show from 9:00 p.m.-midnight at the Rosenthal Student Center's Flight Deck.

Homecoming ends Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. home volleyball match versus Webber College, a 7:00 p.m. alumni reception, and the Homecoming Dance at 8:00 p.m. at the Doubletree Guest Suites-Galleria. Saturday's 11:00 a.m. alumni golf outing at Jacaranda Golf Club was canceled due to this week's storms.

MEDIA NOTE: NSU's new "wave and ride" campus shuttle bus service, which began this past Monday, will be servicing NSU students, faculty, and staff members from Leo Goodwin Senior Residence Hall to the Doubletree Guest Suites from 7:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m. A water taxi is also available to students from 1:00-4:00 a.m. to transport them from the hotel to Beach Place and back.
