Sloan Semester Opens Academic Doors for Victims of Hurricane Katrina

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences is participating in the Sloan Semester, a special nationwide online learning program for students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The Sloan Semester assists students enrolled in colleges and universities in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi whose studies have been disrupted. Its intent is to provide an academic bridge to help students stay focused on their educational goals and prepare for eventual return to their home institutions once recovery efforts have been completed.

The Sloan Semester is organized by the Sloan Consortium, a consortium of institutions dedicated to advancement of online education, and is funded by the Sloan Foundation in partnership with the Southern Regional Education Board. More than 1,000 courses from 140 institutions have been compiled into an online catalog. The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences is contributing ten courses that begin during the fall semester’s second 8-week term. Registration for those courses opened on September 21.
