13 Student Athletes Recognized for Outstanding AchievementA total of 13 NSU student athletes were named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's List of Outstanding Achievement for the months of August and September, it was announced Tuesday by SSC Commissioner Michael J. Marcil. A total of 105 student-athletes from all nine SSC member schools were selected to the April list. Each of NSU's five fall sports teams was represented on this month's list with the women's cross country team leading the way with four selections. The men's cross country team had three student-athletes named to the list, while the volleyball, men's soccer and women's soccer teams each had two members named to the first list of 2005-06. Of the 13 student-athletes selected from NSU, 10 were first-time honorees while women's cross country runner Heather Sternau (So., Freeburg, Ill.) along with men's cross country sophomores Aaron Kolterjahn (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and Brandon Petersen (Hollywood, Fla.) were named to the Commissioner's List for the second time in their careers. The Commissioner's List of Outstanding Achievement is designed to recognize the top athletic performers at each SSC member institution in a given calendar month. Every month, each SSC member institution may nominate student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport who meet predetermined criteria during athletic events played during that month. Sports are recognized during the traditional championship segment for that sport. |
