Fischler School Hosts South Asia School Collaboration ProjectFourteen school administrators, education officials, and teaching professionals from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka participated in a five-week education program offered by the Fischler School of Education and Human Services in conjunction with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The South Asia School Collaboration Project was designed to help participants better understand alternatives to the fundamental madrassahs, or Islamist schools, often found in their countries and exposed them to innovative ways of delivering education in challenging circumstances. They received training, seminars, and workshops in instructional methodologies proven to be effective in addressing the educational needs of disadvantaged children, an overview of current educational leadership and educational policy issues, and the use of technology in the classroom. A segment of the program focused on the issues, challenges, and opportunities presented by the diversity of the U.S. population. The program was also infused with field experiences and schedule community events selected to promote the Bureau’s mission of increasing mutual understanding between South Asian participants and Americans. All sessions were conducted by faculty members in the Fischler School.
