NSU Men’s Golfers win Sunshine State Conference Honors

Michael J. Marcil, SSC commissioner, announced on Wednesday, April 27, that Nova Southeastern University men’s golfer Martin Styf (Fr., Goteborg, Sweden) was named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year and sophomore men’s golfer Stephen Conrad (Syracuse, Indiana) was named to the SSC All-Conference Team.

Styf posted four top-10 finishes and one top-5 finish for NSU this season, as the Knights captured NSU’ s first-ever SSC championship in the university’s first year of eligibility for conference titles. Styf’s top finish of the year came at the SSC Championships, where he placed fifth, with a three-round score of 219, just six strokes behind the winner. Styf also tied the NSU program record with a tournament-low 67 in the second round of the Buzzini/Stanislaus Invitational.

Conrad had a career year in 2004–05, with a scoring average of 72.4 in 22 rounds played. The sophomore won a pair of individual titles (2004 Spartan Invitational and 2004 Rollins Invitational), and had a total of four top-5 finishes and six top-10 finishes for the year. In addition, Conrad set a new men’s golf program record with a pair of 9-under-par 215’s in back-to-back events at the 2004 NSU/UNICCO Fall Invitational and the 2004 Rollins Invitational. He also posted a round of 67 in the final round of NSU’s home event in the fall, matching the school record for low 18 holes.

Voting for the All-Sunshine State Conference teams and award winners was conducted among the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.
