NSU, through the Fischler School, Signs Teaching Agreements With Malaysian Universities

Nova Southeastern University has become the first university in the United States to sign agreements for online teaching with Malaysian universities.

Under the historic agreements, the Fischler School of Education and Human Services (FSEHS) will offer master’s and doctoral degrees to students and faculty at two leading Malaysian institutions, HELP University College in Kuala Lumpur, the capital, and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris in Selangor, the country’s largest and most populous state.

At least some of the instruction will be in the field of instructional technology and distance education, offering graduate-level training in how to design curriculum and use technology to teach at a distance.  NSU faculty also will work collaboratively with Malaysian faculty to infuse technology into the Malaysian classrooms.

Education Provost/University Dean H. Wells Singleton, Ph.D., said the agreements with HELP and UPSI fit neatly with the FSEHS’s strategic plan for expanding offerings and training into the Southeast Asian market, a region which is widely reported as the most promising opportunity for U.S. and other universities with expertise in distance education.

Singleton said actual student enrollment and instruction should begin at both HELP and UPSI within six months.  Upon graduation, the students will have a degree from both their home institution and NSU.
