NSU Law Student Receives Scholarship and Presents Paper at Harvard Chris Everett, third year law student and Technical Editor of Nova Law Review, presented a research paper entitled "Bridging the Gap between Computer Security and Legal Requirements" at the Workshop on the Economics of Information Security held at Harvard University Kennedy School of Government on June 2-3, 2005. Everett also received a WEIS scholarship to attend the conference. Student scholarships were sponsored by the Institute for Information Infrastructure Protection. Everett ’s paper focused on the potential liability of an organization for the faulty release of information maintained on the organizations’ computer system. Also presenting were representatives from Kuwait University, the International Institute of Information Technology in Hyderabad, India, the University of Milano ( Italy), Cambridge University, Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea, and representatives from the Department of Homeland Security. Jennifer Granick, the Executive Director for the Center for Internet and Society (CIS) at Stanford University School of Law, expressed particular interest in Everett’s research. A subsequent paper addressing the different types of terminology (i.e. method, apparatus, computer-readable medium, etc.) that can be used to describe a software invention in a patent application will be presented by Everett at the National Association of Patent Practitioners in San Francisco in July.
