SHSS Advisory Board Member to be Honored at Charity Luncheon The 4th annual Hispanic Women of Distinction Charity Luncheon presented by the Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass Mills & Latina Style Magazine will be honoring Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences advisory board member, Carmen M. Ayala on August 14. Ayala is a member of the executive committee for HisPAC, Hispanic Business Political Action Committee, and a commissioner on the Broward County Commission on the Status of Women. She is also the past chair of the board for the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; past president of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County; a former board member for the State Board of ASPIRA of Florida and for ASPIRA Palm Beach; a former trustee and member of the Museum of Discovery and Science; and the past president of the Broward County National Association of Women Business Owners. Ayala formed MTM Partners (Mind-to-Market), a full-service marketing and public relations firm, in late 1999 after serving as director of communications for the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences selects its advisory board members based on their academic and professional backgrounds as well as their involvement in the local community. The board members serve as ambassadors to the graduate school. Formerly, Ayala has received recognition from FastTrack magazine as one of South Florida's 50 most successful women (Spring 2002) and was selected by the March of Dimes as the recipient of the 2003 Women of Distinction award.
