NSU College of Pharmacy Supports 5th Annual “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” Walk Asthma is the leading cause of school absenteeism and the leading chronic childhood illness in the United States. Close to 20 million Americans have asthma, and in South Florida, approximately 75,000 children have asthma. The American Lung Association of Florida, Inc. – South Area is holding its 5 th Annual “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” Walk, October 8 at Huizenga Plaza in Fort Lauderdale. Registration is at 8:15 a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided to keep the crowd energized for the 3.1 mile walk along the scenic New River in Fort Lauderdale. Dr. Maria Maniscalco has been an Assistant Professor at NSU College of Pharmacy since 2003. Since then, she has actively participated in the Asthma Walk. Each year, as Team Captain, she recruits more and more walkers, with over 100 walkers last year. This year she is hoping to get more walkers at the park. You can join her team (NSU College of Pharmacy) or create your own. Whatever you choose to do, your support to the American Lung Association of Florida, Inc. – South area will be appreciated. For more information on the 5 th Annual “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” Walk visit www.sflung.org or call (954) 524–4657. Hope to see you there.
