Circle of Friends Host Pulitzer Prize Winning Political Cartoonist Jim Morin

Members of the Circle of Friends and the community recently gathered at the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center for “An Evening with Editorial Cartoonist Jim Morin” The Miami Herald Pulitzers Prize-winning political cartoonist.

Morin, the author of three books, including Famous Cats, Jim Morin's Field Guide to Birds and the political cartoon collection, Line of Fire, described the process of drawing his cartoons, and showed some of his favorite cartoons, caricatures, and paintings. The program concluded with an entertaining question and answer session.

Morin, who has been at The Miami Herald since 1978, was awarded the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning. He was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 1977 and 1990. His cartoons appear in The Miami Herald five days a week, and are syndicated internationally by King Features.

Morin has also won the 1996 Berryman Award from the National Press Foundation, 1992 National Cartoonist Society Award, and Overseas Press Club Awards in 1979.

The event was co-sponsored by the Circle of Friends for the Alvin Sherman Library and the ACLU of Florida, Broward County Chapter.
