September 21 marked the International Day of Peace – a day set aside by the United Nations to celebrate peace and non-violence around the globe.

The Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) recognized the day with a celebration of peace at the Alvin Sherman Library. The day included representation by numerous civic, student, and peace building organizations as well as various workshops, films, and activities promoting peace.

Both speakers relayed the importance of peace in today’s world through their own experiences. The closing ceremony featured NSU alumna Florence Ross, Ph.D. Ross is the founder of the Institute for Peacemaking Elders at NSU and a graduate of the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at SHSS. The International Day of Peace ended with Rev. Marcy Roban’s of Metaphysical & Holistic Education and Services closing remarks.
