The annual holiday luncheon hosted by the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business & Entrepreneurship was a special event that featured the unveiling of the Dr. William S. Spears Courtyard Atrium. Dr. Spears’ $2 million gift officially closes the Huizenga School’s capital campaign.

Dr. Spears and his fiancée Suzie Babbio, made a special trip from Texas to commemorate the occasion. The naming opportunity is displayed over the stage in the Atrium and above the South entrance to the building. In addition, a plaque by the stage marks Dr. Spears’ sentiments, “More important than simply an institution from which I received my doctorate degree, the Huizenga School and NSU have become family to me.”

The celebration included food and raffle prizes, live music, and an entertaining magician. Huizenga School Dean Randolph Pohlman also presented faculty and staff recognition awards:

Award for Excellence: Dr. Gay Holliday and Dr. Tom Powers
Faculty of the Year Award: Dr. Bahaudin Mujtaba
Excellence in Teaching Award: Dr. Thomas Tworoger
Staff of the Year Award: Jacquline Carridge, Dennis Dannacher and Jeannette Lausell.

President Ray Ferrero, Jr. and Dr. George Hanbury were present to congratulate Dr. Spears and join in the festivities. Other guests in attendance included NSU trustee H. Wayne Huizenga; NBC 6 TV anchor Tony Segreto; Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union’s Stephen McGill; President of NSU’s Alumni Association, Paul Sallarulo; and Jayne Blyer, donor of the Huizenga School’s Jayne and David Blyer Grand Staircase.
