Last Steel Truss Lowered onto University Center

Athletic Director Mike Mominey and NSU student athletes Luis Gurrieres, Dana Buss and Fabienne Bain stopped on Friday, August 19, to watch construction workers lower the last 160-foot steel truss into the roof of the $80 million, 300,000-square-foot University Center on NSU's main campus.

The structure, which will be the largest on NSU's main campus in Davie, will ultimately house a sports arena, performing arts center, student fitness center, and a student union.

Workers used a 500-ton crane to drop the 17-ton iron truss, which was the final component in completing the physical structure of the building. Now that the beam is in place, the pre-fabricated façade of the building will be mounted. Completion on the University Center is slated for April 2006.
