HPD's Bal Fantastique Honors Millicent Steele
The Health Professions Division (HPD) held its annual fund-raising gala, Bal Fantasique, on Saturday, April 9 in the Crystal Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Pier 66. More than 400 people were on-hand for the elegant evening of fine food and dancing. The continued success of the black-tie Bal Fantastique is due largely to the combined efforts of chairpersons Geraldine Terry, Judy Lippman, Sheila Tischenkel, and Ronnie Siegel-Oller. The evening's most poignant moment occurred when NSU President Ray Ferrero, Jr., Geraldine Terry and HPD Chancellor, Dr. Fred Lippman, recognized a visibly moved Millicent Steele with NSU's Distinguished Service Medal. A quintessential volunteer, philanthropist and enthusiastic NSU supporter, Ms. Steele founded NSU's Gold Circle , which to-date has raised more than $1.5 million in scholarships for deserving students. Ms. Steele, husband Robert, and daughter Melanie have been involved with the university for more than 30 years. Funds raised at the annual Bal Fantastique are used to enhance the teaching environment at NSU through the NSU Health Professions Division Foundation. This nonprofit foundation utilizes the philanthropic funds to establish scholarships for deserving students, promote research, update equipment and enhance the teaching environment within the university's nationally renowned Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy, Optometry, Allied Health and Nursing, Medical Sciences and Dental Medicine.
