October Health Tip

NSU Celebrates October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

We are celebrating October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM).  For over two decades the nation has built on successes in improving awareness and providing information and hope for future innovation in breast cancer treatment.

For more than 20 years, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has educated women about the importance of breast cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment. Sixty percent of women with breast cancer now survive their disease.  National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a wonderful time for our physicians and staff to reach out to women with several key messages, most importantly, the need for early detection by getting your annual mammogram.  Mammography screenings are a woman’s best chance for detecting breast cancer early when the chance for cure is best.  Recent studies show that more women than ever before are getting their yearly mammograms, and these screenings are saving women’s lives.

If you would like more information about programs that we offer during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month call the NSU-COM women’s center at (954)-262-1142 and leave a message.  One of our board certified breast cancer experts will return your call or you may access the Center for Disease Controls information for breast cancer at http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/nbccedp/info-bc.htm
