Vacation Policy
All Employees (Excluding Faculty, Senior Administrators and employees not eligible for vacation)
- Employees who have completed six months of continuous service are eligible to use accrued vacation leave.
- Employees accrue vacation leave at the appropriate rate (see accrual schedule below), which is based on position classification and length of service.
- Beginning after the completion of one year of service, employees are permitted to carry over up to one week of unused vacation each anniversary. The week can be be used anytime in the next anniversary year.
- Unused vacation hours are paid out to employees upon termination of employment at NSU.
Vacation Accrual Schedule
All accrual rates referenced below are based on a full-time work schedule (37.5 hours per week). Part-time employees can determine their accrual rate by dividing their weekly scheduled hours by 37.5 and multiplying the applicable full-time accrual rate by that figure.

Faculty & Senior Administrators
- Advanced 22 days of vacation each July 1 (pro-rated for hires after July 1).
- Beginning in the second year of service, permitted to carry over up to one week of unused vacation each July 1.
- Unused EARNED vacation hours are paid out to employees upon termination of employment from NSU.
