Health Care Sciences Orientation

Welcome to the Nova Southeastern University and congratulations on your acceptance into the Health Professions Division's College of Health Care Sciences.

In order to prepare for the year ahead, please read this website and become familiar with the information. In addition, make a note of the required forms that you will need to submit prior to orientation day.

Information regarding Orientation for the Summer 2012 Entering Classes of the College of Health Care Sciences will be posted shortly.

Orientation Dates and Attendance

Please fill out the Orientation Attendance Questionnaire to indicate how many people, including yourself, will be attending this important event.

Required Information & Forms to Be Turned in Before Orientation

Attendance and Dress Code

All students must sign and abide by the attached Attendance and Dress Code Policy. If you have not already turned one in, please print it and bring it with you to Orientation.

Background Checks

Accepted applicants and students are required to authorize the Health Professions Division to obtain background checks. Please note that incoming students must complete the online background check documentation prior to Orientation.

After you have confirmed with the University that you will be definitely attending NSU in the upcoming semester:

  • Information regarding this procedure and a pin number to be used to access the appropriate website will be sent to you home via email.
  • If you have not received your program code and background check pin number, please contact the Office of Admissions at 1-800-356-0026, Ext. 7181 or (954) 262-7181.

Hospitalization Insurance Information

The Health Professions Division is concerned for the health and welfare of its students. As a result, all fulltime Health Professions Division students at Nova Southeastern University are required to carry adequate health insurance coverage. Therefore, as of June 1st, all fulltime students will be automatically billed and enrolled in the Blue Cross Blue Shield plan endorsed by NSU.

If you carry your own insurance, you will be instructed on how to fill out the waiver form online after you have been registered for classes at orientation.

If you fail to complete the online waiver by the given deadline, your fees and enrollment will remain.

  • You will not be able to complete the insurance waiver until after you have registered for classes (at Orientation).
  • The online waiver is the only way you will be able to cancel the student health insurance plan.

Mandatory Immunization and Physical Exam

Students entering into the College of Health Care Sciences will use the same company who processes our background checks, Certified Background, to process your forms.

  • Once an incoming student goes into the certified background website to fill out his/her background check form, the student will then be directed to go to the secure Magnus Health Portal to print out the immunization and physical forms.
  • Once printed, you may take them to your health care provider and then, once they are filled out, you can scan them and upload them into the certified background website.

For your convenience, these forms can also be located in the blue side bar at the upper right hand side of this webpage. If you have any difficulty with this procedure, or do not have the capability to scan and save documents, you will be given the option to send copies of the completed documents directly to certified background.

Please note: DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS—YOU MUST KEEP A COPY FOR YOUR RECORDS! If you must send the forms to Certified Background, please send them via certified mail.

Lab Coats

All HPD students enrolled in on-campus programs are required to purchase two lab coats. You will be given a chance to meet with bookstore personnel to try on sample lab coats during the orientation process. The lab coats cost $ 37.00 and payment will be due when you place your order. Any questions regarding the ordering process can be directed to the NSU Bookstore, (954) 262-4750.

NSU Email Account

Students may obtain their email account credentials by visiting Get My SharkLink ID.

Parking Permit Application

All students, faculty and staff at Nova Southeastern University are required to obtain a parking permit. Please go to the NSU Public Safety Website and print, fill out, and return the Parking Permit Application.

This form must be returned no later than Orientation Day.

NSU Sharkcard

The NSU Card is the official Nova Southeastern University identification card. All students, faculty, and staff are required to carry the NSU Card for identification purposes. In addition, the card can be used as a library card, for vending machine and copy machine purchases, for meal plans, and for building and parking access on campus.

Please fill out the NSU Card Agreement Form completely and bring it with you to Orientation in order to have your photo ID taken. The NSU Card Office will keep this form on file in the office. Should you require a copy of the form please have it made prior to turning it in.
